During this accelerated conversion course, I will learn Java and become proficient in Object-Oriented Programming.

The course will also lay the foundation for Software Engineering using the UML standard to teach me how to start and manage projects. They also have several group projects that will help teach leadership skills as well as cooperation and compromising skills in both programming and software engineering. I will also have a foundation level understanding Artificial Intelligence, Databases, Data Structures, Networks, Operating Systems and SQL.

    Health

I volunteered at the charity Friends of RUH who help patients who come into the hospital have a very pleasant visit. The aim of this charity is to help the patients have a comfortable stay within the hospital by providing tea and coffee made for them as they stay in their beds. As the staffs within the ward have very little time between each patient my aim was to entertain the patients to ensure that their stay was pleasant.

  • Software Workshop Team Project

This was a final assignment that made up 10% of the software workshop used as an exercise in collaborative coding, helping us work together to produce a piece of working code that had a server and client component that also included some form of concurrency. This was a final assignment that made up 10% of the software workshop used as an exercise in collaborative coding, helping us work together to produce a piece of working code that had a server and client component that also included some form of concurrency. The team took inspiration from the game slither.io which is a browser based snake game that allows players to compete against one another on one canvas and grow in size and kill one another. We used this concept but applied components of computer science. The main character was a mouse whose tail would grow in size as it ate bugs, the concurrency aspect was the synchronising of the scores between the players screens while they were playing the game. The aim of the game was to get the highest score in the set amount of time. We built this entirely in java and got a grade of 80% in this project.

  • Human Computer Interaction Project

    -

This was a project where we were told to pick a topic and find means of improving the HCI for a specific demographic. I joined a team of 4 people and we settled on the idea to improve the ease of use and complicated nature of web browsers for the elderly. We achieved 60% in this modules which was entirely comprised of this project.
